Company Profile & Philosophy Picha House, 1990 |
BSH Design has specialized in residential architecture since 1982. In our designs, we try to reflect quiet elegance. Something that is truly outstanding should be peaceful and not overwhelming. It should blend in with the surroundings, instead of standing out. Homes should be inviting not threatening. Balance between scale, form and adornment is crucial for the success of a design, the job of the designer is to find it. The importance of space planning can not be overemphasized. No matter how good a house looks outside, if it doesn't work inside, then it simply is not successful. The plan must flow well, the rooms need to be logically placed to provide each room with a purpose, and a useful place within the home. Storage space is always important, from closets to attics, and access to these areas should be made easy. The interior should be as interesting as the exterior, it should be fun to live in and have a sense of home. The innovative use of standard elements, such as stairs, openings, volume ceilings and other elements can make an average house become a masterpiece. In all cases the built house reflects the plans from which they were constructed. We think through the smallest details before committing it to paper, so when it's built, the home reflects it. A house should be easy to live in, from being able to turn off a light without having to walk out of your way, to still liking the design ten years after it has been built. This is true of all styles of architecture, whether the client's preference is Victorian, Modern or an eclectic mix of different styles. Our plans reflect attention to detail from the foundation to the interior moldings. Keeping in mind that a structure must not only look good, it should be built well. Our plans specify and describe how to build what has been designed. In turn this translates to being able to more accurately estimate costs and prevent decisions during construction that in turn can escalate costs and raise the chances of making structural or other errors. A successful home is a process, both in design and construction. We provide the client with our skill and experience in design and construction, whether the project is an addition to an existing home or a cluster community. |
